Blain developed with the crossroads of two great Gallo-Roman ways (Burgundy/Brittany and Poitou/Brittany).
In 843, ERISPOË there will beat the Count RENAUD and consequently will integrate the Nantes country into the kingdom of Brittany (treated of Angers into 851).

Of XIIè in XIVè one of the strongest castles of Brittany will be set up there: the Castle of Groulaie.

The CLISSON, whose Constable Olivier V, and ROHAN, will reside in this colossal fortress, accomodating there the Duchess and Queen Anne of Brittany, as well as kings. Henri of ROHAN, généralissime of the armies huguenotes is born to with it in the year 1579.
